As we try to meet welfare challenges, we should strive to live righteously so that the Spirit may direct our actions in these important matters. We should study the scriptures and the teachings of the living prophets; obey God’s commandments and heed the counsel of Church leaders; exercise faith in Christ and cultivate humility; pray frequently and fervently; strengthen our relationships with family members, neighbors, and friends; shun things that are morally and spiritually degrading; and work toward worthy goals.
"We know that the ills of this troubled world have come about because men have failed to do what the Lord has commanded them. This applies to economic problems as well as to all other ills. We know also that the only cure for them is to do all things whatsoever the Lord our God commands us" (Marion G. Romney, Ensign, Nov. 1976, 124).
