Serving Others Welfare Specialists Welfare specialists are members of the Church called by their leaders to assist welfare committees and individual members or families as needed. These specialists help with such things as finding employment, improving nutrition and sanitation, storing food, obtaining health care, improving literacy, managing finances, meeting social and emotional needs, and other welfare needs. The work that welfare specialists perform is entirely voluntary and done out of love for their fellow men. "God bless all who endeavor to be their brother’s keeper, who give to ameliorate suffering, who strive with all that is good within them to make a better world. Have you noticed that such individuals have a brighter smile? Their footsteps are more certain. They have an aura about them of contentment and satisfaction—even dedication—for one cannot participate in helping others without experiencing a rich blessing himself" (Thomas S. Monson, "Our Brothers’ Keepers," Ensign, June 1998, 39). |
