Clothing Distribution Centers
In areas where Deseret Industries does not exist, and as appropriately requested and approved, local Church leaders can provide assistance to needy members through clothing distribution centers. These small centers receive clothing donations from local members. Volunteers supervise the centers as a demonstration of love and service for their fellowmen. The clothing is sorted, mended, and made available for distribution. Bishops and Relief Society leaders assist needy members in selecting clothing, which is issued on a bishop’s order form. Funding for bishop’s orders is provided from local fast-offering donations. Based on local transportation capabilities, the service area for a clothing distribution center may be very small so that it is easily accessible to those being served.
