Relief Society

Assist the Bishop as Assigned
While the bishop is responsible to meet the immediate needs of those under his care, he may call on the Relief Society, priesthood quorums, or any ward members to assist him in this effort. The bishop looks to the Relief Society and the priesthood quorums primarily as resources to help members resolve long-term welfare needs. These may include unemployment or underemployment, financial and resource management, homemaking, health, nutrition, education, and other needs that hinder members from being self-reliant. The Relief Society presidency also receives assignments from the bishop to provide compassionate service as needed.
"The Lord’s storehouse includes the time, talents, skills, compassion, consecrated material, and financial means of faithful Church members. These resources are available to the bishop in assisting those in need" (Thomas S. Monson, Ensign, Sept. 1986, 5).
