Skills Training teaches the work skills required for a worker to perform a specific job. In the Rehabilitation Services training program, skills training occurs in both in-store as well as off-site settings.
In-Store Training
Trainees may choose from a combination of the following in-store skills training options:
Cashiering
Computer (word processing and spreadsheets)
Customer service
Custodial skills
English as a Second Language
Forklift operation
General education diploma
Internships
Job search
Keyboarding
Literacy
Sales floor merchandising
Supervising other workers
Work ethics
Off-Site Training
In addition to in-store training, trainees may also select from a certified list of skills training options not available in the store, but sponsored by Deseret Industries. Community colleges, applied technology centers, and other local skills training institutions partner with Deseret Industries to help trainees achieve self-reliance. A representative list of the skills training programs available to trainees include:
Accounting clerk, assistant
Auto computer assisted drawing
CPR and first aid
Certified nurse's aid
Construction
Computer repair
Dispatching
Emergency medical technician
Food services, including cooking and baking
Forklift operation
Medical transcription
Pharmacy technician
Phlebotomy
Welding
Other off-site skills training options may be available, as dictated by the Individual Self-Reliance Plan.
