Serve in Your Local Community

Family
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes that the family is central to God’s plan for us. Therefore, we should do all possible to care for the needs of our own families. Service to family members can be done by:
  • Teaching children life skills through education and work.

  • Visiting and serving elderly or sick relatives.

  • Maintaining contact with relatives who don’t live nearby.

Neighborhood
Needs exist right in our own neighborhoods. Establishing friendships with those in our neighborhoods will create many opportunities for service. Reach out to those around you and look for ways to serve.

Community
As people in the community—often of different cultures and religions—join together, they can help in ways they could not individually.

Ways we can help in our communities include:
  • Volunteering with a local community agency.

  • Supporting community events such as service projects.
  • Participating in local school programs.
  • Volunteering at a local homeless shelter.
  • Helping in community literacy programs.
