Question:

What kinds of needs does the Church help to address?

Answer:

No spiritual or temporal need should be overlooked in helping people to help themselves. The bishop, with the help of the ward welfare committee and the resources of the priesthood quorums and Relief Society, can address all needs in the ward and may provide the goods and services needed to sustain life. The Church is able to provide spiritual guidance, social and emotional support and counsel, employment assistance, food, clothing, household supplies, and other essentials. Bishops are instructed to assist with volunteer labor and commodities before giving cash. As always, it is left to the bishop to discern what is to be given in the form of Church assistance.
