Question:

How does giving bless the lives of those who give?

Answer:

The Lord has established a way for those who love him to care for the poor and needy and thereby bring blessings into their own lives. Providing for the poor and needy in the Lord's way means that the giver helps those who are less fortunate by giving according to what he has received from God. He gives freely and with a true spirit of love, recognizing that his Heavenly Father is the source of all blessings and that he is responsible to use those blessings in the service of others.

“I am persuaded that one can (acquire) charity, the pure love of Christ, in building up the unfortunate quicker than in any other way” (Marion G. Romney, general Relief Society conference, Oct. 1936).

“In remembering . . . the poor, the needy, and the oppressed, there is developed, unconsciously but realistically, a love for others above self, a respect for others, a desire to serve the needs of others” (Gordon B. Hinckley, in Conference Report, Apr. 1963, 127).

“Personally, I believe that the most practical way to protect one’s self and family against economic need is to make liberal contributions for the support of the Lord’s poor according to the law of the gospel. I am not promising you riches, but I am telling you that this is the most practical way to protect yourselves and families from actual need” (Marion G. Romney, “A Practical Religion,” [Talk given to seminary and institute faculty], BYU, 13 June 1956).

“If you will take of your substance and give to the Lord’s poor liberally, the Lord will never leave you without the necessities of life” (Marion G. Romney, "Learning to Live in the Lord’s Way," Leadership Week, 17 June 1953).
