Articles on Pornography (sexual addiction)

The following articles contain information on the topic of Pornography (sexual addiction). We encourage you to contact one of our offices for additional assistance.

Pornography has become a serious problem in our society. The effects of pornography have resulted in an increase of sexual abuse and exploitation of children and women, broken marriages and families, and an increase in violent crimes and addictive behaviors.

President Gordon B. Hinckley has stated: "Pornography, with its sleazy filth, sweeps over the earth like a horrible, engulfing tide. It is poison. Do not watch it or read it. It will destroy you if you do. It will take from you your self-respect. It will rob you of a sense of the beauties of life. It will tear you down and pull you into a slough of evil thoughts and possibly evil actions. Stay away from it. Shun it as you would a foul disease, for it is just as deadly" (Ensign, Nov. 1997, 51).

"Flaxen Threads"
In a devotional address given at Brigham Young University, Elder Carlos E. Asay addresses the relationship between thoughts, actions, habits, and characters and its correlation with the “plasticity” of youth. He states, “If character is truly born of habit--and it is--it is vital that all of us understand the process of habit formation. Not only will this process, if applied, enable us to refine character, but it will also assure us success in our missions in the mission field, at home, at school, or wherever”. He offers several steps to build healthy habits as well as equivalent steps to repentance. If followed, habits formed in the “plasticity” of youth will not deter from future prosperity.
