The following sources are not produced nor written by LDS Family Services, but may provide assistance in dealing with challenges and issues. The purpose for providing these additional resources is to foster awareness of other community-based services and programs that are available to provide help and offer adjunct support.

Google Resource Directory - This is a directory of Web pages and related categories dealing with abuse issues.


Disabilities

Disabled American Veterans (DAV) - This is the home page of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), a nonprofit organization of more than one million veterans disabled during time of war or armed conflict.
 
National Federation of the Blind - The purpose of the National Federation of the Blind is to help blind persons achieve self-confidence and self-respect and to act as a vehicle for collective self-expression by the blind. It provides public education about blindness; information and referral services; scholarships; literature and publications about blindness; aids, appliances, and other adaptive equipment for the blind; advocacy services and protection of civil rights; job opportunities for the blind; and family support.
 
Department of Veterans Affairs - This site assists military veterans and dependents with compensation, pension, education, health, vocational rehab, and employment services.
 
Disability Resources - Disabilities.lds.org has recently been launched to help members with disabilities and their families participate more fully in Church meetings and activities. In addition to providing information on various disabilities, this new section includes suggestions and resources for leaders, teachers, caregivers, and Church members.
 
Social Security Administration - This site provides benefit information for retired or disabled individuals, online services to assist with financial planning, and other resources.
 
CHADD - CHADD works to improve the lives of people with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder through education, advocacy, and support.


Eating Disorders

Addiction Resource Guide - The Addiction Resource Guide provides a comprehensive online directory of addiction treatment facilities.
 
National Eating Disorders Association - NEDA is dedicated to expanding public understanding of eating disorders and promoting access to quality treatment for those affected along with support for their families through education, advocacy, and research.
 
Eating Disorders Resources - This resource specializes in eating disorder publications and education.
 
Food for Thought - This series of lectures, sponsored by Women's Services and Resources at Brigham Young University, explores what it is like to live with an eating disorder. This site offers the presentations in streaming audio and in print.
 
Internet Community Resources - This is a resource directory for information, intervention, and self-help programs for those suffering from eating disorders.

Caregiver - This is a list of Web-site links for varioius issues faced by the elderly, such as health and legal issues.
 
AgeNet - Eldercare Network - This site provides resources for the elderly. It includes health, legal, and insurance information specific to older adults.
 
Social Security Administration - This site provides benefit information for retired or disabled individuals, online services to assist with financial planning, and other resources.
 
The Resource Directory for Older People - This site provides information and resources on matters relating to the needs of older persons. It is sponsored by the National Institue on Aging and the Administration on Aging.


General Mental Health Issues

Mental Health Resource Foundation - The Foundation is a volunteer organization committed to carrying a message of hope to those who may be suffering from mental illness and social/emotional concerns and those who love them.
 
National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) - NIMH is the world's largest scientific organization dedicated to research focused on the understanding, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders and the promotion of mental health.
 
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) - NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of persons living with serious mental illness and their families.
 
Mental Health Channel - This site contains information about mental illness and disorders, treatment, and resources.

The Lighted Candle Society - A nondenominational, nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of moral values.
 
Evergreen International - A nonprofit organization dedicated to helping LDS individuals overcome homosexuality in their lives.
 
National Coalition for the Protection of Children and Families - A nonprofit organization dedicated to defending biblical truth about sexuality.
 
Cyber Secrets: The Problem of Pornography - A series of presentations given at a special conference sponsored by Women's Services and Resources, a department of Student Life at Brigham Young University. This site offers the presentations in streaming audio or in print.


Substance Abuse

Mental Health Resource Foundation - The Foundation is a volunteer organization committed to carrying a message of hope to those who may be suffering from mental illness and social/emotional concerns and those who love them.
 
Alcoholics Anonymous - Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.
 
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration - SAMHSA's mission is to build resilience and facilitate recovery for people with or at risk for substance abuse and mental illness.
 
Smokefree.gov - Smokefree.gov allows you to choose the help that best fits your needs. You can get immediate assistance in the form of an online step-by-step cessation guide, local and state telephone quitlines NCI's national telephone quitline NCI's instant messaging service, publications which may be downloaded, printed, or ordered.
 
National Center for Addiction and Substance Abuse (Columbia University )(CASA) - The mission of CASA is to inform Americans of the economic and social costs of substance abuse and its impact on their lives; to assess what works in prevention; treatment, and law enforcement; to encourage every individual and institution to take responsibility to combat substance abuse and addiction; to provide those on the front lines with the tools they need to succeed; and to remove the stigma of abuse and replace shame and despair with hope.
 
Parents: The Anti-Drug - This site provides information on drug types, symptoms of use, and resources.
 
National Institute on Drug Abuse - The NIDA provides information for the prevention and treatment of drug addiction and abuse.
 
Foundation for a Smokefree America - Smokefree America's mission is to motivate youth to stay tobacco free and to empower smokers to quit.
 
Alcohol & Drug Information - Information and resources from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and SAMHSA's National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information.
